How to deal with unwanted or obsessive thoughts during the perinatal period

The perinatal period causes most of us to walk around with many of our needs remaining unmet. As a perinatal therapist, I help my clients adjust to this new phase of life and build tools to deal with issues that arise such as intrusive thoughts. Approximately 10% of birthing people will experience intrusive thoughts during the perinatal period. This is a very common difficulty and it doesn't mean you are going crazy or there is something wrong with you. It most likely means that there is some underlying anxiety or unmet need that needs to be addressed. Mindful attention and self-compassion can go a long way here.
