Showing Up To Life

Life is extremely unpredictable and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. No amount of checking, preparing, obsessing, fearing, hiding, etc can p rotect you 100% from the dangers that threaten your existence and the existence of everyone you love. This is a difficult fact to live with, I know. It can be even more difficult to live with when you love tiny little humans and would literally give up your life in a heartbeat to keep them safe.

While this knowledge is difficult, hiding from it can make it worse. It can cause it to go underground into our subconscious and keep us living in reaction to it instead of making decisions based on our true values and dreams. We could wake up one day in our old age and realize that we played it safe because we were so fearful of getting hurt.

Getting hurt is the price we pay for having hearts that love. Once we care about something, we are at risk of getting hurt. There is no way around it. When we can truly accept this, we can make peace with life as it is instead of unsuccessfully trying to mold life into something it isn't.

Life's hard lessons are screaming at us: DON'T TAKE ANYTHING FOR GRANTED!

Life also tells us: Don't lower your level of consciousness, don't miss out on being present with those you love. Show up to this messiness we call life. Yes, you will get hurt. It will be painful. You may lose everything you hold dear. And that is what makes it so special. Because it ends. So pay attention. Express your feelings. Show your affection. Don't delay the healing work you need to do in order to become a better parent, partner, person. Grasp onto life but not too tight. You are mostly a passenger and you do not get to fully decide where this ride goes. Don't forget to breathe.
