Reflections After One Year of Running A Late-Discovered Autistic Membership Community

One year ago, I created a membership community for Late-Discovered Autistic folks. I had no idea what I was doing, I just knew it was needed and that I could figure it out as I went along. Since that time, over 70 people have participated in the group in some form or another.

I am deeply honored that 70 Autistic people trusted me to offer a quality group that was safe and helpful to them. My motto throughout my entire career has been "Do good work." I believe I am living in line with this value.

Having an AuDHD+ brain and running a business is not easy. I am a relentless perfectionist and nothing I ever do seems perfect enough. Yet, I continue on due to the feedback I get from others that what I do is life-changing and something they have not been able to find anywhere else. My brain is both a hinderance and an asset, since because of having a brain like this, I understand others who have it too.

So, what is a membership, anyway? The basic way I think of it is an ongoing support group for Late-Discovered Autistic folks that offers more of a community-vibe. Some folks have been in this group since October 2023!! And as we get to know each other, our relationships deepen and it feels more familiar and comfortable, which is key for us Autistic folks.

I could've run just a standalone support group that met monthly or bimonthly but then the cohesiveness would be gone. As an Autistic person, I like communities with a shared goal and direction, it gives it just enough structure to feel safe while also allowing for some change and spontaneity.

I have decided to keep running this group for 2025. We are 40 members strong and our meetings are well attended and dive into the deep topics that probably no one else in our family is interested or knowledgeable enough to engage us in. It feels nice to be surrounded by similar folks who've had similar struggles. It gives me a great sense of purpose knowing that I am providing this for people.

So, if you are thinking about joining, please do! No rush, we'll be here all year+. Here's the link to learn more: Membership

REMINDER: THIS GROUP IS NOT THERAPY
